What is International Day of the Girl?

Declared by the United Nations in 2011 and first observed in 2012, International Day of the Girl shines a light on the challenges facing girls around the world. Along with inequality in schooling, the workforce, and access to healthcare, new challenges have arisen amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with 47 million girls and women entering poverty according to the UN.

At the same time, International Day of the Girl also highlights the potential of girls to succeed and bring about change when they have the space and resources to thrive. In honor of this important day, we looked for a donation partner committed to helping girls excel.

Teaming up with Girls Inc.

For more than 150 years, Girls Inc. has focused on helping girls be the best that they can be. Through mentorship, public policy advocacy, and programs on topics like STEM, health and fitness, and leadership, Girls Inc. provides girls with the tools they need to grow up “healthy, educated, and independent.”

As a company dedicated to bringing about better health and committed to equality, we look for organizations that work to build a brighter future. Like past Enlightened donation partners including Feeding America, Diversify Dietetics, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Girls Inc. has a vision of a healthier, more just world.

Enlightened gives back

In honor of International Day of the Girl, we’re donating 50% of profits from EatEnlightened.com to Girls Inc. from now until October 17. It’s the perfect moment to stock up on your favorites, or try something new like limited-edition Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream. You’ll be making a difference for girls across the U.S. and Canada with every order!
