About
Our Mission
At Enlightened, we believe in choosing to fill your life with joy. And what could be more joyful than all of your ice cream aisle favorites, served up full of flavor and made with nutrition you can feel great about? Whether you're looking to cut down on sugar or load up on protein, doing keto or eating plant-based, we've got a delicious treat made with you in mind. Eating healthy shouldn't be a compromise—it should be a celebration!
Our Story
Michael Shoretz didn't always know much about nutrition. That changed when his father was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Fascinated with learning how to help people live healthier lives, Michael studied health policy and became a certified personal trainer.
Michael's clients often confessed to eating ice cream by the pint, eager to make up for their late-night treat with a trip to the gym and desperate for a recommendation for a healthy ice cream option. Michael quickly realized that while better-for-you options existed, there always seemed to be a catch. Fewer calories just meant "sugar instead of fat." Low sugar meant "filled with artificial ingredients."
Ever the ice cream lover, Michael decided to try making some himself that would fit his clients' needs—not only high in protein, but low in calories, fat, and sugar. With the help of talented experts and enthusiastic friends and family, the first box of Enlightened ice cream bars was created in 2012.
Today, you can find Enlightened in freezers nationwide, with feel-good options for all tastes and wellness goals. The mission has remained the same since day one: to help people live healthier lives—and enjoy every bite.
Giving Back
We're not just here to delight you at dessert time—we're on a mission to bring better health to individuals, to our communities, and to our planet.
